Star Cricket Academy

The members of Star Cricket Club A. S. B. L. (celebrating their 25th year) believe in sharing their knowledge and providing an opportunity to athletes to learn, master and excel in playing cricket, the world’s second largest sport. We believe that cricket is a game that unites us all, as one in celebrating the achievements of our members and trainees.

Women’s tournament

The first ever Luxembourg Cricket Federation’s Women’s tournament was held in August 2021 (yes! during the pandemic), hosted by the Optimists Cricket Club at their Pierre Werner Cricket Ground, Walferdange, where more than 80 women and girls participated.

This tournament brought a major injection of interest into the Luxembourg Women’s cricketing journey. This wonderful weekend was completed with a win for Starlettes Cricket Club (Plate Final) and for Optimists Maidens Cricket Club (Cup Final). All in all, the standards, the energy of the participants and the spirit of cricket was the true winner. This successful tournament created an eager enthusiasm and a common question of "what next!" for the Women.

Support from the Commune of Schuttrange

Star Cricket Club took up this opportunity and created the Star Cricket Academy (SCA), with support from the Commune of Schuttrange, who had just then provided access to their indoor sports facility "An der Dällt" to organise and conduct training session for new cricketers. These 3-hour Women’s only training sessions not only included learning the rules, fitness, batting - bowling - fielding techniques, and playing matches, but also an opportunity to making lifelong friendships. Around 25 women participated in these sessions, which aimed to facilitate participants to be match ready in under 23 weeks, in time for the start of the outdoor season. The Star Cricket Academy not only appointed a committed head coach Sri Kolla, who was ably supported by Niraj Trivedi, Jatin Madan, Sambhav Puri and Roshan Vishwanath, but also made huge investments into the infrastructure required to play cricket at an indoor facility.

The Star Cricket Academy has given Women’s Cricket in Luxembourg a fresh momentum coming into the summer. With outdoor training beginning in April at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground, Walferdange with support and coachs from the Luxembourg Cricket Federation, players can go on to participate at a first-class level at the Belgium Women’s Cricket League as part of the Trois-Frontières Cricket Club.

The Star Cricket Academy and Luxembourg Cricket Federation invites Women who are interested in participating in cricket in Luxembourg to get in contact via the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WomenCricketLux

Star Cricket Academy also provides training to the University of Luxembourg and is planning to hold training camps for Youth at its Schuttrange facility. Details will be circulated as soon as the plan is put in place. All are welcome, no matter the skill level!
